What Is Emo

The Emo genre and subculture has become something that is very hard to define or pinpoint in time. Because of this, it has become difficult to trace its lineage. Emo is a type of music which covers a lot of different styles of rock music with common stylistic roots. (Emotionally charged punk rock) As such, the use of the term emo has been the subject of much debate and heated discussion. Sometime in the mid-1980s, the phrase emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, DC music scene.

Myth: Emo people and culture is not all suicidal and emo kids do not all slit their wrists.

Emo is not only a classification or a type of music, it's a culture, a lifestyle which one expresses themselves through dress and looks.
